NY Times 4/2 Georgia Executes Warren Lee for Murder 

This article struck me because of Lee's lawyer's comment that this execution will leave a moral stain on Georgia. Execution has long been a debated topic and this case was unique because of a special law regarding disabilities. The law was that in order to be qualified as mentally inept you have to have an IQ of 71 or lower. Lee had one in the 90's, therefore, when his lawyer argued he was mentally handicapped it was not enough to save him from the death penalty.

NY Times 3/2 Mormons seek means between Gay Rights and Religious Freedom 

This article interested me because it emphasized that the Mormon leaders think this debate should be a national priority. This shows the difficulty our government makes in making moral decisions and laws. Also it shows that yes, a large variety of people have influence on laws and ideas for laws.

Huffington Post Drunk Man Drone Crash 2/2 

Earlier this week a drone landed in the White House lawn. It ends up that a man was drinking at a local apartment and crashed the drone over the White House fence. This seems like it could turn into a big problem as far as security and the standards they need to meet to avoid incidents like this that could turn into larger issues.

It's a smart media tactic to use the Super Bowl to get the message across due to its large audience.

Bartender Accused of Threatening Boehner's Drinks 5/1 

This article is a little different than the others but it was an interesting topic my eyes wouldn't let me pass up. The article in a summary is about a crazy bartender. who thinks he is Jesus and wants to kill Boehner for being mean to him. On a deeper level this article brings up a topic that runs hundreds of years ago when government was first being established. When the idea of democracy was tossed around the early pioneers of our government dismissed the idea that common people were rational enough to run of government. This is relevant to this article because it shows how irrational some people can be. The bartender was offended Boehner did not take as much action making sure the country club was ran as well as our country. I also wonder if Boehner is going to upgrade his security after this incident. Finally, I will leave you with a comment my E.R. surgeon and supervisor uncle gave me. "People always want to claim they are Jesus. How come nobody wants to pretend they're something normal, like a Shepard  or something. It always has to be Jesus Christ."

Obama's call on Laws for Data Hacking and Privacy 4/1

This article taps into the issue of human rights regarding privacy. Well, that is the deeper root that it relates to. However, more relevantly speaking, it highlights the topic of our security and safety from hacking. Obama has taken quick action to press this issue. It was interesting that the article pointed out that Obama will have to face the Republican led Congress on this issue. It makes me wonder if the Republicans can put aside the differences between our nations two political parties to protect our fundamental privacy and safety. The article also went on to discuss the issue on power between federal and state governments and how they can choose to enforce the safety of Americans and their financial information,

Education Testing 3/1 

What caught me first in this article was the issue of how aggressive the federal gov should be in a topic like education. This plays into the role of our two part system. Obviously the federal government has been aggressive according to this article, making sure that annual testing stays a part of our educational system. I'm automatically curious why this issue isn't more of the state's role due to the varying racial distributions across the country since the whole purpose of the annual testing is to decipher whether or not minorities are evenly and adequately taught in classroom settings. I'm going to say I agree with the federal gov's decision to keep annual testing though. I understand parents are upset about it, however they would have a bigger problem if the mistreatment of minorities and their education went unregulated.

This article is very proactive because it takes several things we learned this year and applies them to a relevant situation. For example, the differences between Democrats and Republicans are highlighted on the issue of this bill being passed. If Obama chose to sign the bill he is in risky of looking like a flip flopper. In other words he would look like he is embracing Republican values. This article is a testament to the difficulty of being a president. Obama has a lot of people looking at him saying he is procrastinating our pushing the issue away as long as he can. This article also discusses the checks and balances in the gov and how Obama can use them to take the Keystone oil decision out of his hands. Lastly, the article also briefly discussed the issue on whether or not the bill was found unconstitutional, which brings us back to AP GOV in the beginning of the year! The necessary and proper clause.

This article is interesting because it depicts the way Congress can affect Boehner's morale even with a victor. It's also interesting to see the ties the article made between Boehner and white supremisist, especially with the Republican attempt reach minority voters. It seems to be tapping into the stereotypes that Republican's are usually white Southern males which ties to deeper roots of racism and slavery.
